OVI checkpoint locations announced in Dayton on Friday

Dayton police and the Montgomery County OVI Task Force have announced the locations of an OVI checkpoint that will be conducted Friday night.

The checkpoint will start at 8 p.m. near the intersection of North Main Street and Hillcrest Avenue, Dayton police said in a tweet Friday. The checkpoint will be moved to the area of Salem and Hillcrest avenues later in the night.

596 alcohol-related crashes were reported in Montgomery County in 2016, leading to 14 deaths and 273 injured, Dayton police said in a media release earlier this week.

Funds for the checkpoint will be provided by the Combined Agency OVI Task Force of Montgomery County. 

The location of the checkpoint was announced to the public in accordance with Ohio law. 

Middletown city offices closing today at noon

Middletown city offices will be closed from noon to 5 p.m. today, Dec. 15, for the annual Employee Recognition Luncheon.

All offices of the city will be closed during that time, with the following exceptions:

  • Division of Police
  • Division of Fire
  • Transit Service
  • Water Treatment

The Middletown City School offices, which are also located in the city building, will be open for business as usual.

Santa Claus visits babies in Dayton NICU

Santa Claus visits the NICU at Miami Valley Hospital

Santa Claus paid a visit to the NICU of the Miami Valley Hospital tonight to spend time with its infants. 

The early holiday visit started at 6 p.m. at the Berry Women's Center Building. 

The NICU "elf" was there to take photos with Santa and the babies. MVH has approximately 30 to 40 infants in its NICU.

According to the hospital, Santa's visit has been a positive experience for families over the years as they celebrate their babies first Christmas.

Bolts Sports Cafe in Englewood to open as usual after small fire Thursday night

A small fire Thursday evening led Bolts Sports Cafe to close early.

Staff said the restaurant at 910 S. Main St. will open as usual at 11 a.m. Friday.

Englewood fire crews were called just before 6:30 p.m. for a small fire outside the building. Five engines responded, and all crews cleared in about an hour, according to city police and fire dispatch.

No cause of the fire has been reported, and there were no injuries.
