Teen pleads not guilty in death of half-sister, Carroll HS student

Jason D. Tidwell pleaded not guilty to multiple charges including murder in the shooting death of his half-sister Mackenna Kronenberger, during his arraignment hearing Tuesday morning.

Tidwell’s bond was set at $1 million. 

Dylan Angel, a man previously jailed but released and uncharged in this teen’s death, is back in Montgomery County Jail. 

Angel is in Montgomery County Jail on an unrelated charge of possession of drugs, from an incident on Bickmore Avenue in Dayton, according to a police report. No other narrative is available from the July 17 incident report.

UPDATE @ 6:46 a.m. (July 18)

Jason D. Tidwell, the half-brother of a teenage girl shot to death in Dayton, is scheduled to arraigned today. 

Tidwell was indicted in Montgomery County for murder, tampering with evidence, felonious assault, discharge of a firearm on or near prohibited premises and weapons under disability.

UPDATE @ 4:24 p.m. (July 13)

The Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office said a grand jury declined to indict Dylan M. Angel in this case “due to insufficient evidence.” He will be released from jail.

“The investigation determined that the defendant (Jason D. Tidwell) had been in a fight with another 18‐year‐old, Dylan M. Angel. Gunshots were fired, and one of the shots entered the home of the victim and killed the defendant’s stepsister,” according to a press release from Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr.

Tidwell remains in jail on $1 million bond. 

UPDATE @ 3:45 p.m. (July 13)

The half-brother of a teenage girl shot to death in Dayton has been indicted in the case.

Jason D. Tidwell was indicted in Montgomery County for murder, tampering with evidence, felonious assault, discharge of a firearm on or near prohibited premises and weapons under disability. He will be arraigned July 18.

The grand jury ignored charges against Dylan M. Angel in this case.

EARLIER REPORT

The family of a 14-year-old Carroll High School student who was killed by a stray bullet is planning to have a public visitation and private funeral for the slain teen by the end of next week.

Funeral arrangements for Mackenna Kronenberger are being handled by the Tobias Funeral Home Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton Xenia Road.

Kronenberger was killed when a stray bullet fired in front of her house struck her while she was inside during the early morning hours of July 5. Police said she was an innocent bystander.

Two males are facing murder charges — Mackenna’s half-brother Jason Tidwell and Dylan Angel, both 18. Police said the pair were fighting in front of the house on Morse Avenue when each fired shots at each other.

A fund to help defray the costs of funeral expenses has been set up and donations can be made by visiting Carroll High School’s website.
