Dayton police continue search for stabbing suspect

Dayton police continue to search for the suspect accused of stabbing a man on Briarwood Avenue Friday night, correcting an earlier report that a suspect was arrested.

20-year-old Jerrid Gibson is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries after he was stabbed in the back with a pocket knife by an unknown man.

According to a Dayton police report, officers responded to the 400 block of Briarwood Avenue to find multiple people yelling in the street and Gibson in the back of a car, bleeding from the stab wound.

Dayton officers requested assistance for crowd control from neighboring departments while medics removed Gibson from the scene.

A witness at the scene told police they saw an unknown man stab Gibson and then run in an unknown direction, according to the police report.

During the group argument, officers said 19-year-old Dashon Hill was accused of pushing and hitting a woman at the scene. Hill is booked in the Montgomery County Jail on an assault charge.

UPDATE @ 5:12 a.m: A 19-year-old male is in custody after stabbing another man on Briarwood Avenue late Friday night.

Dashon Hill is in Montgomery County Jail on an assault charge after stabbing 20-year-old Jerrid Gibson in the back.

Dayton police were dispatched to the 400 block of Briarwood Avenue for a fight in progress where multiple people were in the street yelling.

Officers found Gibson in the back seat of a vehicle with a stab wound to the back from a folding pocket knife. Hill fled the scene after stabbing Gibson.

Gibson was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Hill was arrested last night not too long after a broadcast was made of a suspect description.

UPDATE @ 11:31 p.m.:

One person was stabbed and the suspected stabber remains on the loose following a fight on Briarwood Avenue Friday night, according to police.

The man who was stabbed was taken to a local hospital, but is expected to be OK, police said.

Officers did take a juvenile into custody on the scene who may have been involved in the incident, police said.

INITIAL REPORT:

Dayton police have responded to a possible stabbing on Briarwood Avenue this evening.

Initial reports indicated that multiple people were fighting and that at least one person was possibly stabbed.

The incident was reported around 11 p.m. in the 400 block of Briarwood.

A caller to our news room said he saw a large response from police.
