SKY7: Accident on Salem and Westbrook

UPDATE @ 11:25 a.m.

The intersection of Salem Avenue and Westbrook Road has reopened following a crash that occurred Friday morning. Clayton Police say the accident was caused by a car avoiding another vehicle that was attempting to make a U-turn. Both drivers involved in the accident are expected to recover from their injuries. 

FIRST REPORT

At 8:30 a.m. Friday morning crews responded to Salem Avenue and Westbrook in Clayton regarding a two car crash with one car striking a DP&L pole. Both drivers were injured and transported to Miami Valley Hospital according to the Clayton Police Department. One driver’s injuries were reported to be serious while the other’s were determined to be non-life threatening. 

A DP&L pole was heavily damaged in the accident and will have to be completely replaced. The intersection is still shut down and the traffic lights around it are out of order.  The Clayton Police Department is currently investigating the cause of this accident.

UPDATE @ 10:10 p.m.

One person was sent to a local hospital tonight after a house fire in Miamisburg.

The fire was reported in the 700 block of East Central Avenue.

The victim’s condition was unknown.

FIRST REPORT

Firefighters were called tonight to a house fire in Miamisburg.

The fire was reported around 9:30 p.m. in the 700 block of East Central Avenue.

According to initial reports, fire was showing from the rear of the two-story house.

SB I-75 back open after semi, 2-car crash in Tipp City

UPDATE @ 9:30 p.m.

Two southbound lanes of Intersate 75 in Tipp City are back open following a crash involving a semi hauling new cars and two cars.

A third lane remains closed for road construction.

FIRST REPORT

The southbound lanes of Interstate 75 in Tipp City are closed tonight following a crash involving a semi and two cars.

The highway is shut down just south of exit 68, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Piqua Post.

The crash was reported around 7:45 p.m.

OVI checkpoint underway in Dayton

UPDATE @ 1:40 p.m. (Oct. 20):

OVI checkpoints will be held between 8 p.m. and 1 a.m. in two Dayton locations.

Police will be out in the area of East Third and Terry streets and Keowee and East Fifth streets.

State law requires law enforcement to announce sobriety checkpoints ahead of time.

INITIAL REPORT:

A sobriety checkpoint in Dayton is planned for this weekend. 

The Combined Agency OVI Task Force of Montgomery County will operate the enforcement, according to a statement released Monday afternoon. The location will be revealed this week. 

OTHER LOCAL NEWS: Lawyer denies mishandling estate

According to the OVI task force, there were 596 alcohol-related crashes in Montgomery County in 2016. 

Fourteen people were killed and 273 were injured in those accidents. 

The majority of the deadliest crashes occur on weekends, according to task force officials.

Girl climbs out from under pickup unscathed after her bike is hit

North main in New Carlisle child struck

UPDATE @ 5:40 p.m.

A girl and her bicycle landed underneath a pickup truck after she was hit by the vehicle.

The girl was able to climb out from underneath the Chevrolet Avalanche unscathed, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Springfield Post.

The driver was headed south on North Main Main Street and tried to avoid the girl who rode into traffic, the trooper said.

A child riding a bicycle was hit by a car late this afternoon in New Carlisle.

The incident was reported around 5 p.m. in the 400 block of North Main Street.

The severity of the child’s injuries is unknown.
