More than six months after fire destroyed the old Hewitt Soap Factory on Linden Avenue, the city will close the road for up to a month so crews can demolish the charred facility.

“Linden Avenue between Davis Avenue and Hamilton Avenue will be closed to traffic beginning Monday, July 31,” the city said in a statement. “The closure results from the demolition of the former Hewitt Soap Factory.”

The city said it plans to post a detour for motorists.

The soap factory was damaged during a large fire at the building on Dec. 22.
