Man treated for hypothermia after leading police on foot chase

DAYTON — UPDATE @ 12:45 p.m.:

A man is receiving treatment for hypothermia after he was found in a small body of water while trying to hide from police, according to investigators.

The suspect fled from police near an apartment complex on Mount Crest Court in Dayton after police approached him, following reports of a man with a gun in the same area.

Officers shut down the area of Springfield Street and North Smithville Road while they searched a wooded area where the man ran into.

The suspect was treated for hypothermia after police took him into custody.

It was not known if a weapon was located.

Police have confirmed they have captured a man they believe is the suspect in this case, according to investigators.

Police have shut down Springfield Street in the area of North Smithville Road, while officers search for a man who may be armed, according to police.

Officers initially responded a few blocks away to Mount Crest Court after receiving a report of a man armed with a gun, dispatch reports indicated.

A police K-9 is currently on the scene assisting in the search for the suspect, according to initial reports.

Multiple police units have responded to the area of the 700 block of Mount Crest Court in Dayton this morning.

Initial reports indicated officers were trying to locate a suspect, who could possibly be armed, however specific details of the incident were not immediately available.
