Piqua man in serious condition after crashing into semi in Darke Co.

A Piqua man is still listed in serious condition at Miami Valley Hospital after he was extricated from a crashed SUV on U.S. 36 in Darke County Tuesday morning, according to deputies. 

Carl Larger, 42, was driving the SUV eastbound in the 9500 block when he went left of center and struck a semi, sending it into a nearby cornfield. 

Deputies said the driver of the semi was treated and released at the scene. 

A traffic reconstructionist was called to the scene and the crash remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.

UPDATE @ 12:40 p.m. 

Both directions of U.S. 36 south of Bradford have reopened after a crash between an SUV and a semi. 

UPDATE @ 10:55 a.m. 

U.S. 36 is shut down in both directions for deputies to investigate a crash between an SUV and a semi in Darke County. 

The SUV went left of center in the 9500 block of U.S. 36 and slammed into a tractor trailer traveling in the opposite direction, sending the semi into a cornfield, according to investigators. 

The SUV driver was trapped in the vehicle as a result of the crash, and was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. 

The semi driver was not injured. 

A crash reconstruction team is conducting the investigation of the crash. 

It is not known when U.S. 36 is expected to reopen.

An SUV driver suffered serious injuries following a head-on crash with a semi on U.S. 36 in Darke County, according to our news partners at The Early Bird. 

A CareFlight medical helicopter landed at the scene to transport the driver to an area hospital.

FIRST REPORT

At least one person is reportedly trapped after a head-on crash on U.S. 36 near Bradford in Darke County Tuesday morning. 

Deputies and fire crews were dispatched around 9:30 a.m. to the 9500 block of U.S. 36, west of Ohio 721, on reports of a head-on crash between an SUV and a semi. 

A CareFlight medical helicopter has been requested to the scene.
