Piqua has six overdose victims since midnight

Piqua police are reminding the public of a community drug disposal program following at least six overdoses involving Piqua residents today.

“We have been notified via the health department that six overdose victims from our zip code area have been treated in emergency departments,” Piqua Police Chief Bruce Jamison said.

Jamison said any Piqua resident with a suspicious substance in their possession that could lead to a life threatening ingestion can contact the police department to come to a location and safely dispose of the substance.

“We will not ask for your identity or inquire about your intentions for possessing it.  We will not ask how you came to possess it,” Jamison said.

The city said they still remain committed to holding drug traffickers accountable, but also want citizens to assist in getting dangerous drugs off the streets “even if it’s not part of a criminal case.”
