Semi driver freed after crash on SB I-675 in Centerville

I-675 Southbound in the Centerville area has reopened after a semitrailer traveled off the highway and into the tree line.

The semi driver is being treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to John Davis, a Centerville spokesman.

Firefighters had to make a path to get to the semi driver.

The driver was trapped for about 45 minutes, Davis said.

“We’re very fortunate that a witness actually watched the accident occur,” Davis said. “Had they not, we probably would not have seen this truck back there.”

Officials are unsure what caused the crash. The crash is still under investigation.

Authorities are asking drivers to avoid Interstate 675.

The semi driver has been identified as a 52-year-old Lebanon man.

A semi driver, trapped after a crash on southbound Interstate 675 in Centerville, has been freed from the wreckage and transported to an area hospital.

Police said the highway will be shut down at some point during the morning commute and drivers are urged to seek an alternate route.

The WHIO Traffic Center suggests two ways to get around this crash: south on Wilmington Pike to Clyo Road, west on Clyo Road to East Alex Bell Road, west on East Alex Bell to I-675.

Another way to route around the crash is north on Wilmington Pike to East Whipp Road, west on East Whipp Road to Far Hills Road, south on Far Hills to I-675

Centerville police said all lanes of southbound Interstate 675 will be shut down at some point this morning, but an estimated time for when the highway will be blocked was unknown.

Officers are asking drivers to avoid the area through the morning commute.

UPDATE @ 5:40 a.m.

Police and fire crews have blocked the right and center lanes of Interstate 675 south of Wilmington Pike.

Initial reports indicate the driver of a semi is still trapped inside the vehicle after it traveled off several feet off the roadway and into a wooded area.

FIRST REPORT

One person is reportedly trapped inside a vehicle following a crash on southbound Interstate 675 in Centerville Wednesday morning.

Deputies and firefighters were dispatched to the interstate between the Wilmington Pike and Ohio 48 exits on a reported crash with injuries around 4:40 a.m.

Initial reports indicate the vehicle involved is several feet off the roadway and in a tree line.

There are no immediate reports of any blocked lanes.
