OHTF 1 members help with Hurricane Maria recovery efforts

Several Ohio Task Force 1 members are assisting with rescue efforts throughout the Carribean as Hurricane Maria continues to batter the region.

Battalion Chief Jack Reall from Columbus has been assisting the “Red” Incident Support Team in Puerto Rico for five days and he is assigned as a deputy operations section chief, according to a spokesman

“OH-TF1’s continuing efforts supporting several command and control management roles within the FEMA Urban Search and Rescue System show the depth and quality of all our team members,” said Evan Schumann, Ohio Task Force 1 Program Manager.

Capt. Mike Cayse, of Cincinnati, and Capt. Jeff Newman, of Sycamore Twp., are both stages in Tampa, Florida awaiting air transport to Puerto Rico to assist with the “Red” Incident Support Team, the spokesman said.

Matt Maurer from the Clayton Fire Department also has been assisting Indiana Task Force 1 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and he just returned from a lengthy assignment supporting the search and rescue efforts in Florida.
