Ohio 49 open again after head-on collision that injures 3

UPDATE @ 7:30 p.m. (Aug. 25): State Route 49 North has reopened after the head-on collision involving a car and a semitrailer that sent two of three victims to Miami Valley Hospital.

According to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, a blue 2003 Buick LeSabre driven by Christopher A. Wilson, 32 of Winchester, Ind., was headed south on 49 when it went left of center and struck a northbound 2015 Volvo semitrailer driven by Jerry B. Sturgell, 59 of Greenville, Ohio.

Both vehicles came to rest off the roadway.

Sturgell was treated at the scene. Wilson and his passenger, 26-year-old Angela C. Paris, of Fort Wayne, Ind., were taken to the hospital by CareFlight.

Wilson was listed in fair condition, Paris in serious condition, according to the sheriff’s office.

Ohio 49 was closed more than 3 1/2 hours for the investigation and cleanup.

UPDATE @ 4:32 p.m. (Aug. 25):

A male and female were removed from the scene via medical helicopter.

UPDATE @ 3:54 p.m. (Aug. 25):

Ohio 49 is closed in the 12000 block following a crash involving a semi and another vehicle, according to dispatchers.

At least two people are reported to be injured.

INITIAL REPORT:

A two-vehicle crash has been reported in the 12000 block of Ohio 49 this afternoon in Darke County.

Injuries have been reported and CareFlight has been requested to the scene, according to initial reports.
