Officer pulls woman from burning Sugarcreek Twp. house

UPDATE @ 3:06 p.m. (Dec. 9):

Body camera video released today shows Sugarcreek Twp. Officer Tyler Mantia forcing open the door of a burning home on Stewart Road and rescuing her.

"Come on. Get down. Where you at?" Mantia said after he entered the house.

"Wait I can't walk," the woman said.

"Come on ma'am," Mantia said as he helped her escape the house.

INITIAL REPORT:

A woman is in critical condition after a Sugarcreek Twp. police officer helped pulled her from her burning home on Stewart Road Wednesday.

The woman was physically disabled and unable to reach her walker when her house in the 1700 block caught fire and the officer entered a pulled her from the burning house, police said.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where she is listed in critical condition, according to officers.

There was a large amount of smoke in the house when the officer entered and he was treated for smoke inhalation on the scene.
