Vehicles get stuck on icy hills, others slide off roads

There are numerous reports of vehicle slide-offs, fender-bender crashes and cars getting stuck tonight as road conditions continue to deteriorate.

On Gettysburg Avenue in Dayton, a semi and cars were stuck on a hill around 8:30 p.m. after they couldn’t get enough traction on the street covered in snow and ice. A city truck was called in to plow the roadway and salt it.

One accident was reported in a parking lot at The Greene in front of the Ulta store in Beavercreek, another person crashed into a tree at Upper Miamisburg, Dayton-Germantown Road. Both accidents happened around 7 p.m.

In Darke County, a portion of state Route 118 south of Hunter Road was closed after a driver around 6:45 p.m. crashed into a gas line, causing it to leak. Darke County Sheriff’s dispatchers said Vectren was called to the scene.

So far, no serious injuries have been reported, but numerous salt trucks are out treating roadways, motorists report.
