Nor’easter to blame for windy weather here; find out why

As the seasons begin to change, the battle between warm and cold air takes shape, which makes March one of the windier months, Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Eric Elwell said.

For the last week to 10 days, winter has been fighting hard across the eastern half of the country. There have been two massive storms called nor’easters that have roared up the eastern seaboard.

“As these storms intensified, it increased the atmospheric pressure gradient across the eastern half of the United States, especially across New England and the Great Lakes,” Elwell said. “In turn, that has kept gusty winds across the Ohio Valley.”

With the gusty winds out of the north and northwest, colder air has funneled into the Miami Valley, leading to bitter wind chills at night and in the morning hours this week.

It likely will take the remainder of the week for the cold air to relax.

“The nor’easter is keeping a strong wind flow of the Great Lakes,” Elwell said. “That will keep temperatures will below average with some occasional passing snow showers and flurries across the state the rest of the week.”
