Springfield police said a man who died in a Springfield shooting early Monday morning was shot and killed while he was in his car.
UPDATE @6:25 a.m.
Springfield police are investigating a fatal shooting on South Yellow Springs Street.
The coroner is on scene.
Police have a crime scene taped off on South Yellow Springs Street in Springfield.
The scene is reportedly between Mulberry and Jefferson streets. Authorities declined to comment on the nature of the investigation.
A man who called our newsroom said he sees a white sedan in the middle of the roadway.

Today: Scattered showers will continue to move in through the early morning, said Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Kirstie Zontini. A rumble of thunder can’t be ruled out. It will be a very mild day with temperatures climbing into the low to mid-60s. Widespread rain will push north during the afternoon. There’s a chance for a downpour or two late in the day.
Tuesday: Rain should stay to the northwest. It will be a warm morning around 60. Temperatures through the afternoon will soar into the low to mid 70s. There will be sunshine and scattered clouds. Some dry time is expected during the afternoon. Scattered showers will move back in at night.
Wednesday: Scattered showers are expected with the chance for a thunderstorm or two for the morning and afternoon. A cold front will push through during the day. Highs will be in the low 60s early and fall through the day. Watch for ponding on the roads and gusty winds.
Thursday: It will be a little cooler with highs in the mid 40s. Some dry time is expected during the day. Clouds will be broken with the chance for a few showers south.
Friday: More widespread rain will push into the Miami Valley through the day. Highs will be in the upper 50s.

— Clouds will be on the increase overnight tonight as rain approaches toward daybreak Monday. Temperatures overnight will be steady in the upper 30s and lower 40s.
MONDAY: Rain returns, and it could be heavy at times. While the chance for storms is not all that high, it can’t be ruled out. Highs will be in the lower to middle 60s.
TUESDAY: More dry time is expected, but storms will be possible later in the evening. Highs will be near 70 degrees.
WEDNESDAY: Rain showers are expected with highs near 60 degrees.
THURSDAY: The chance for rain continues mainly south. Highs will be in the middle 40s.
