Man who shot mail carrier in Dayton gets prison time

DAYTON — A man who shot a mail carrier on Arlene Avenue earlier this year will spend 10 years in prison.

Christopher Gibson, 47, shot at the mail carrier three times, hitting him once in the leg.

Gibson was sentenced today by video in U.S. District Court.

Ring video camera footage helped police with their investigation authorities said.

“This defendant pulled a firearm on a federal worker and then fired it at him,” U.S. Attorney David DeVillers said. “After shooting the weapon, Gibson fled from the scene, destroying evidence of his crime along the way. All of this resulted from the defendant’s apparent dissatisfaction with his mail service. He deserves this prison time.”

The shooting happened Jan. 3 and Gibson was convicted of a using a gun during a violent crime in May.

Gibson has been in custody since his arrest.
