Man in vehicle, trapped in high water, is rescued in Preble County

A man had to be rescued tonight when his vehicle became trapped in high water at state Route 122 and Jacksonburg Road.

Chief Michael Roberts, West Elkton-Gratis Twp. Fire Department, said the man told them he tried to drive through the high water Wednesday evening.

Storms in the area left behind a high volume of rain, which produced ponding on several roads throughout Preble County and the region.

"Anytime you see water across the road, you shouldn't drive through it," Chief Roberts said. "It could have been much worse."

The chief said some of his firefighters found heavy water in the area of Camden West Elkton and Platt roads.

The high water is "something we don't often see," he said, noting his firefighters have not done any water rescue training because they seldom encounter the kind of water volume on roads that fell Wednesday evening.
