Man accused of trespassing into DP&L substation, disconnecting power

Vandalia police have charged a man after he was accused of climbing a fence at a DP&L substation and disconnecting circuit breakers, causing a "large power outage" in northern Montgomery County last Wednesday.

Police said David Showalter, 28, of Dayton, climbed the six-foot high barbed wire fence at the DP&L substation on Wyse Road around 4 p.m.

After pulling the circuit breakers, police said power was knocked out to customers in Vandalia, Butler Twp. and Huber Heights.

Showalter also was accused of tampering with other equipment and buildings on the property, police said.

Showalter was charged with inducing panic and trespassing, according to court records.

The 28-year-old's arraignment is scheduled for April 3.
