Centerville veteran’s active shooter training credited with saving lives of two witnesses to Las Vegas shooting

CENTERVILLE — A Centerville police officer with years of experience with the department was recognized Monday for his extensive work in the law enforcement community, to include active shooter training that a Las Vegas shooting witness credited with saving his life.

Officer John Davis has served as a community relations officer with Centerville police since 2012, but has been with the department for 25 years.

Davis has taught “Run, Hide, Fight” training to a variety of organizations throughout the region and the country to educate and prepare participants on how to respond to active threats, according to city officials.

Davis said he was recently contacted by an individual who participated in the training, when he was teaching in Long Beach, Calif. The individual told Davis the training came into use while he was in Las Vegas at the time of last year’s mass shooting.

“He credited the training with saving his and his wife’s life,” Davis said.

Davis has taught courses across Ohio and in Orlando, Las Vegas, Indianapolis and Long Beach.

Davis also has roles with the Ohio Crime Prevention Association and the Miami Valley Crime Prevention Association.
