Kettering Police Dept. awards $1K scholarships to 2 area high school seniors

Kettering Chief of Police Chip Protsman presented two high school students with this year's John Shryock scholarship today.

The recipients are seniors Amanda Fanz, of Fairmont High School, and Faith Stuart, of Archbishop Alter High School.

The Chief John R. Shryock Scholarship of $1,000 is awarded to one or two students who submit an essay showing that they exemplify their ability to strive in the academic field, as well as, giving back to the community.

Chief Shryock was Kettering's first chief of police in 1955 and served 20 years.

This award, given every year in memory of Shryock, is intended to reward students who demonstrate the standard of excellence and abundance of service the chief expected from his staff.

The Kettering Police Department believes Fanz and Stuart will carry on his legacy.

Fanz plans to attend Taylor University in Indiana, where she will study elementary education. Stuart plans to attend Ohio Northern University, where she plans to study pharmacy.
