“We stand in solidarity with peaceful protesters and demand reform and change for all families that have lost loved ones,” Trotwood Mayor Mary McDonald said in a media release ahead of a news conference Friday.

The protest and march is set to begin at 11 a.m. at Madison Park on South Broadway Street. McDonald encouraged the entire Trotwood community to participate in what is expected to be an entirely peaceful event.

Trotwood Police Chief Eric Wilson also expressed support for the event and also denounced the actions of the four accused former Minneapolis officers that resulted in Floyd’s death, calling their actions unacceptable.

Wilson added that officers will walk with protesters to ensure a safe event. Wilson and city manager Quincy Pope Sr. said the city will not tolerate and does not condone any illegal activity, violence, property destruction or putting anyone’s safety at risk.

The gathering in Trotwood is one of many that are planned for the weekend in area communities, including Dayton, Huber Heights, and Miami Twp.
