Food service company plans to permanently layoff up to 62 at Dayton International Airport

DAYTON — Global restaurateur HMSHost announced plans to permanently layoff up to 62 associates at the Dayton International Airport, citing unprecedented declines in traffic in airports.

A notice from the company’s human resources department to the state of Ohio says the company plans to permanently layoff the workers, who were previously placed on temporary furloughs, if they are not called back to work before Oct. 15.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has devastated the travel and restaurant industries and, unfortunately, HMSHost sits at the crossroads of both. Never in the history of aviation and the hospitality industry, have we experienced such catastrophic customer traffic declines,” the notice read.

The jobs impacted include baristas, cashiers, cooks, bartenders and other positions.

The company’s profile says it operates in more than 120 airports, including Dayton, Cincinnati and Columbus. The company employs about 41,000 associates worldwide.
