Woman jumps from second floor to escape suspicious Dayton house fire

DAYTON — UPDATE @ 1:15 a.m.

Firefighters said a woman was uninjured when she jumped from the second floor of her house, after a suspicious fire broke out Wednesday morning.

Crews were dispatched to the 1st block of Vine Street just after midnight Wednesday on a reported structure fire.

Dayton Fire District Chief Rennes Bowers said crews located heavy fire in the back of the house that spread into the kitchen.

Bowers said all occupants were able to evacuate before firefighters, but one woman was forced to jump from a second story window. She, and the other occupants, were not injured.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the back porch of the home and the kitchen, but heavy smoke was throughout the house.

Bowers said the fire is suspicious and appears to have started outside the house, then spread into the structure. A fire investigator was requested to the scene for the investigation.

Firefighters did not indicate if the occupants would be displaced for the night.

No firefighters were injured.
