2 women killed in Darke County crash Sunday morning

DARKE COUNTY — Two women were killed in a crash south of New Madison in Darke County Sunday morning, according to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.

Both occupants of a 2014 Chevrolet car, identified as Linda Smith, 74, of West Milton, and Marie Fine, 94, of Laura, died from their injuries in the crash, deputies said in a media release.

Units were called to the area of state routes 722 and 726 just before 10 a.m. Sunday after the crash was reported.

A preliminary investigation found the car driven by Smith was traveling east on state Route 722 and pulled into the intersection with state Route 726, right into the path of a 2012 GMC SUV traveling south.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. Fine was taken by MedFlight medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton where she later died from her injuries, deputies said.

The driver of the SUV, identified as Natalie Greene, 30, of New Madison, and the passengers inside the SUV, Vincent Springer, 31, of New Madison and two juveniles, were treated and released at the scene.

Additional details about the crash were not released. The incident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
