Drowsy driving blamed in crash that caused outage near Cedarville

Drowsy driving led to a crash that sent the male driver to the hospital and knocked power out to 118 in Greene County.

The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. on Wilberforce Clifton Road just north of Grinnell Road, west of Cedarville.

The vehicle drifted off the side of the road and smashed into a utility pole. Dayton Power and Light reports there are 118 customers without power as a result.

The driver escaped serious injury because he was wearing a seat belt, but it could have been avoided if he had gotten more rest, according to Trooper Jasen Kelly of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

"Be careful as far as driving while fatigued,” Kelly said. “It can be as dangerous as drinking and driving because it can have the same result."

The driver was taken to Greene Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening.

DP&L responded to the scene to make repairs and restore power to the area.
