Darke County crews investigating reported ammonia leak

Arcanum fire crews are working to clean up an anhydrous ammonia spill in Darke County Monday night.

Dispatchers said the chemical used as an agricultural fertilizer leaked from a tanker truck.

People living near the area of Ohio 49 and Hollansburg-Sampson Road are encouraged to contact the fire department should they notice any strange odor.

Dispatchers said those who smell the chemical area advised to close their doors and windows while remaining inside.

Darke County fire crews are investigating a reported ammonia leak outside of Arcanum.

Crews were dispatched to an area near the intersection of Ohio 49 and Arcanum Bears Mill Road, according to dispatchers.

Initial reports indicate a 2,000 gallon tank of ammonia has been leaking for at least 15 minutes in the area.
