UPDATE @ 10 p.m. (Oct. 11)

Yellow caution tape surrounds what was really a barn, not a garage, that was destroyed by what investigators are calling a suspicious fire.

The two-story barn was moved in 1908 to its current location in the rear of the 300 block of Third Street in the Shawnee section of Piqua.

It’s not clear when the barn was built, but it is among the oldest in Miami County’s rich agricultural history.

The Piqua Fire Department said the fire, which caused an estimated $18,000 damage, is suspicious. Evidence was collected and taken to the State Fire Marshal’s Office crime lab in Columbus.

Another $2,000 damage was the estimated damage sustained after the intense heat melted part of the siding of a nearby garage.
