Crews investigating cause of fire at vacant Dayton home

DAYTON — Update@3:05 a.m.:

The structure was a vacant duplex that was boarded, said District Chief Adam Landis of the Dayton Fire Department.

The home was covered with heavy smoke when firefighter arrived, he said.

Crews entered the home and quickly put out the fire, Landis said, noting that the gas and electric were turned off.

Arson investigators are investigating to determine if the fire was set intentionally, as there have been several arson fires of late, Landis said.

He asked residents to be on the lookout for suspicious activity and to call 333-tips to report them.

First report:

We are responding to a report of a house fire at Troy and Leonhard streets, and heavy smoke can be seen.

Firefighters have gone on the defensive, according to scanner traffic.
