Crashes reported as snow, wind cause slick roads, poor visibility

Third and SR 49 crash

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect as a possible 3 to 5 inches of snow is expected through the morning. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Butler and Warren counties until 8 p.m.

Snow is falling steady, and drifting will be a problem with gusts reaching 25 to 35 mph.

  • In Beavercreek, on southbound I-675 at milemarker 16, crash down a hill reported around 8:50 a.m.
  • In Greene County, on US 35 between North Stringtown Road at Ballard Road, vehicle on its top at 8:35 a.m.
  • In Dayton on Wilmington Pike at Clyo Road, two-vehicle crash reported around 8:10 a.m.
  • In Dayton on WB 35 at Steve Whalen Blvd, crash reported around 8:05 a.m.
  • In Jamestown, on S. Charleston Road at Paullin Rd, crash reported around 8 a.m.
  • In Vandalia, on Northwoods Blvd. at N. Dixie Drive, slide-off reported around 7:42 a.m.
  • In Xenia, on westbound U.S. 35 at New Jasper Station Road, vehicle into a ditch around 7:30 a.m. 
  • In Vandalia, on W. National Road at Airport Access Road, slide-off reported around 7:25 a.m.
  • In Trotwood, on W. Third Street at OH-49, two vehicle crash reported around 7:10 a.m.
  • Between Piqua and Sidneyon I-75, multiple slide-offs reported between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m.
  • On US-42 in Lebanon, vehicle rollover reported around 6:40 a.m.
  • On Eaton Pike in New Lebanon, minor crash reported around 6:35 a.m.
  • In Darke County on SR 705, west of Osgood, a semi into a ditch around 6:25 a.m.
  • In Clay Twp., on Diamond Mill Road, crash reported around 6:12 a.m. Medics requested. 
  • In Vandalia, on Dog Leg Rd, vehicle slide-off reported around 6:05 a.m.
  • In Lebanon, on Greentree Road, a vehicle slide-off reported around 5:47 a.m.
  • In Beavercreek on N. Fairfield Rd, road is closed between Suburban Dr and Lawson for a disabled salt truck reported around 5:45 a.m.
  • In Miami Twp., on Munger Road, crews were repairing utility lines around 5:30 a.m.  Police reported slick conditions causing issues for crews working in the area.
  • In Butler County, on northbound I-75, north of OH-129, vehicle slide-off reported around 5:15 a.m.
  • In Miamisburg, on Sherwood Forest Drive, vehicle crashed into a house around 4:40 a.m.
  • In Beavercreek, on northbound I-675 at the U.S. 35 exit, vehicle slide-off reported at 4 a.m.
  • In the Englewood area, on westbound I-70 at the 26 milemarker, overturned FedEx truck reported at 2:30 a.m.

  • Keowee Street north of Stanley Avenue, bridge closed until 2019. The official detour is: Keowee Street to Stanley Avenue to I-75 to Wagner Ford Road and back to Dixie. More information is available here.

  • I-75 north Ramp to US 35 west and east, Lane width restriction until Apr. 1, 2018. One lane will remain open on the ramp with a width of 11 feet.


  • N. Market Street between Foss Way/Kirk Lane and Stonyridge Avenue, ROAD CLOSURE March 5 at 7 a.m. - Aug. 10 at 5 p.m. 


  • SR 47 between Fifth Avenue and Wilkinson Avenue, Lane closures Jan. 21 - Nov. 27. One lane will remain open in each direction at all times. 


  • SR 121 between Washington Street and Fairview Street, ROAD CLOSURE Mar. 12 - April 13. The official detour is: SR 722 to US 127 to SR 503.

Man sent to prison for life for killing OSU student

The suspect in the death of OSU student, Reagan Tokes, was arraigned in Columbus Monday morning. After the arraignment, Tokes' father talked to the local media.

A judge has sentenced Brian Golsby to life in prison without the possibility of parole in the kidnapping, rape and murder of Ohio State student Reagan Tokes, reports 10TV in Columbus.  

UPDATE @ 12:10 p.m. (March 21)

Jurors recommended Wednesday that Brian Golsby, the man convicted of killing OSU student Reagan Tokes, be senteced to life in prison with the possibility of parole. Official sentencing will take place at 3 p.m. Wednesday. 


Brian Golsby, the man who was accused of killing Ohio State student Reagan Tokes, was found guilty on all counts in the murder of Ms. Tokes. 

Golsby was convicted of aggravated murder, kidnapping, aggravated robbery, rape and tampering with evidence. 

On February 8, 2017, Tokes was walking to her car after work in Columbus when police say she encountered Golsby and was later murdered.

Looking for a suspect On Norman Street

UPDATE @ 2:10 p.m.:

Multiple officers armed with long rifles and at least one police K-9 unit are searching the area of West Fairview Avenue and Rustic Road following a multi-city chase.

Initial reports indicated the suspect vehicle involved in the chase was a white Mazda CX5.


We’re working to learn how many people police may be searching for.


Multiple jurisdictions are involved in a chase that has traveled through Harrison Twp., Huber Heights and parts of Dayton.

Critical injuries reported following crash during pursuit

UPDATE @ 2:54 p.m.:

A passenger in a suspect vehicle who was ejected from the vehicle in a crash during a pursuit is in critical condition, police said.

Officer began pursuing the vehicle in the area of Salem Avenue and Catalpa Drive in Dayton before 1 p.m. after a Dayton police Sgt. spotted it, authorities said.

Police said the suspect vehicle had fled from officers six times in the past, including once today prior to the afternoon pursuit.

OTHER NEWS: Officers descend on Dayton neighborhood following multi-city chase

Investigators said during the pursuit the suspect vehicle ran a red light at James H. McGee Boulevard and West Third Street, causing a crash involving four other vehicles.

The driver of the suspect vehicle was taken to the hospital with injuries not believed to be life threatening, police said.

Police said the driver had several previous arrests for alleged crimes in the city.


Multiple medics have been called to the scene of a reported crash in the area of James H. McGee and West Third Street in Dayton.

Initial reports indicated the crash occurred while police were chasing a vehicle in the area around 1 p.m.

Suspicious device report prompts shelter-in-place at elementary school

An elementary school in Clark County was placed on shelter-in-place while deputies investigated a suspicious package report Tuesday morning.

Deputies responded to a report of a suspicious package strapped to a traffic control device in front of Park Layne Elementary School at 12355 Dille Road around 8:35 a.m. Tuesday, according to a media release from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. 

LOCAL WEATHER: Timing of snow, wind gusts for upcoming spring storm

“After a visual inspection of the package, along with information gathered from the office at the school, it was discovered that the package was directly related to repair work completed by the Ohio Department of Transportation,” investigators said in the release. 

Officials from ODOT responded to the scene and confirmed it was a cover needed for “temporary repair work” on the traffic control device, according to investigators. 

The school was placed on shelter-in-place while the incident was investigated.
