UPDATE @ 10:55 p.m.

A teen who got off an RTA bus was struck by a pickup truck this evening when he tried to cross Turner Road in Harrison Twp.

The woman driving a gray Chevrolet Silverado called 911, frantically asking for someone to help the teen. “Oh please come quick! Someone ran right out in front of me in front of the bus. ... I hit him! He was crossing right in front of the bus.”

The incident happened by Meadowdale High School, where witnesses said he was headed to football practice.

The pickup had its windshield smashed and hood dented. The teen was taken to Miami Valley Hospital. He was conscious when he was taken but his condition was not available.

Deputies taped off part of Turner Road while they conducted an investigation.

Cheerleading coach Ashlee Smith said she’s had several close calls with students who were running into traffic while she was driving on Turner Road.

“They look both ways but they think they can make it while cars are coming and they just dart across the street,” said Smith, who said she hopes a safer way can be found for students to cross the street.

“There is a crosswalk right down there at the light but they let kids cross where there’s a bus stop. It’s not safe; they’ve been doing this since I was in high school,” Smith said.
