Crews rescue 11-year-old boy on ice in Tipp City sledding mishap

Crews rescued an 11-year-old boy who became stranded in an ice-covered pond after sledding down a steep hill.

A Tipp City police officer crossed the ice to reach the boy and get him to shore. From there, firefighters and EMS used ropes to pull him up a steep embankment, the Troy Daily News reported.

The incident was reported around 11:15 a.m. in the 200 block of South First Street.

A medical helicopter took the boy to Dayton Children’s Hospital, where his condition was not known.

CareFlight was requested to the scene of a sledding accident involving an 11-year-old in Tipp City Saturday morning. 

The incident occurred in the 200 block of South First Street around 11:15 a.m., per initial reports.
