Boy, 9, recovering from injuries sustained in pedestrian crash

9-year-old Tommie Lee Pride, the victim of a pedestrian crash on James H. McGee Boulevard in Dayton Tuesday is recovering and listed in fair condition, according to officials at Dayton Children’s Hospital.

A 9-year-old boy suffered life-threatening injuries after he was hit by a car in the area of James H. McGee Boulevard and Edison Street Tuesday,  according to a Dayton police incident report.

Police said when they arrived on scene, the victim was not able to identify himself, and witnesses and neighbors were unable to provide the child’s identify.

The boy was transported to Dayton Children’s Hospital with injuries that were determined to be life-threatening.

Police did not indicate who was at fault in the crash, or if the driver would face any citations or charges.

Officers said the child was later identified by staff members at Dayton Children’s Hospital who contacted the child’s mother.

The mother told investigators she returned home from work about an hour before the crash, and noticed the boy was missing. She said the child often “wandered off” and she had difficulty keeping up with him sometimes, police noted in the report.

Police also noted that the child was shot in the leg earlier this year as a retaliation to an event he was not involved in.

A boy has been taken to Dayton Children's Hospital after he was hit by a vehicle in the area of James H. McGee Boulevard and Edison Street in Dayton.

The incident was dispatched about 4:50 p.m.

Witnesses tell us the boy is believed to be 7 or 8 years old. According to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch, the preliminary investigation by Dayton police has the boy believed to be approximately 12.

The boy's condition is not known.

Northbound James H. McGee is now open.
