Bicyclist finds man stuck in overturned car on railroad tracks in Urbana Twp.

A 28-year-old St. Paris man was trapped in his car for nine hours before a bicyclist discovered his car on its top after it went off an overpass near a bike path in Urbana Twp.

Nicholas Halaui was found just after 8:30 a.m. today stuck inside his 2008 Chevrolet Malibu that crashed on to railroad tracks after he went of South U.S. 68. Halaui was not wearing a seat belt in the crash that happened between 11 and 11:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.

Halaui was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital, where tonight he was listed in fair condition.

The crash remains under investigation. 


A motorist is reportedly trapped in a car that has flipped onto a bike path in Champaign County. 

Crews were dispatched around 8:50 a.m. to the crash near U.S. 68 and West County Line Road in Urbana Twp.

A car is reportedly on its top on the bike path after falling from an overpass, according to scanner traffic. 

Initial reports indicate CareFlight is being advised to land in a nearby field to take the victim from the scene. 

Covington teen pleads in adult court to Piqua robbery

A Covington teen pleaded guilty Friday to five felony counts of robbery with firearm specifications in a Piqua robbery police said stemmed from a dispute over money.

Christian Triplett, 17, was accused of possessing a firearm in an Oct. 8 incident in Piqua. The police report said the robbery took place after one man accused Triplett of stealing $100 from his wallet. One of the robbery victims was injured when he fell and hit his head.

The case was filed in Miami County Juvenile Court before being transferred to the adult court.

Triplett's pleas were accepted by Judge Jeannine Pratt in Common Pleas Court. A presentence investigation was ordered with sentencing scheduled Jan. 23.

Triplett was being held in the West Central Juvenile Detention Center near Troy.

A driver was arrested after leading police on a chase through West Baltimore, Maryland.

Police have arrested a shooting suspect who attempted to flee officers by initiating a lengthy chase through the city according to the Baltimore CBS affiliate. 

The suspect was eventually arrested in the 1800 block of Gwynn Falls Parkway.

Police: Laid-off worker steals work truck from Vandalia business

A worker who was recently laid off stole a work truck from his former employer and was later arrested during a traffic stop, according to Vandalia police.

Officers responded to Jones & Frank at 7468 Webster Street in Vandalia around 11 a.m. Friday on reports of a work vehicle that was stolen.

The vehicle was followed by an officer from Montgomery County into Miami County, before it was stopped near New Carlisle, investigators said. 

The driver, who was not identified, was taken into custody. There were no injuries and the vehicle was not damaged, police said.

Local toy drive: FLOC partners with The Shopping Bag to help area children in need

For Love of Children or (FLOC) is partnering with The Shopping Bag to make sure underprivileged children in the Miami Valley have a Christmas to remember.

The Shopping Bag is located at 3109 Far Hills Avenue in Kettering and will be a drop of location for new toys to benefit FLOC’s annual Christmas for Kids program.

Fairhaven Church partners with the LEC to provide a Christmas for the less fortunate

From December 15, through December 22 if you drop off a new unwrapped toy to the Shopping Bag you will receive a gift card to the store. (One per family) 

"The FLOC toy shelves are very barren this year, but the need has increased". Said Beth Mann, President of the FLOC Board of Directors. 

"The partnership with The Shopping Bag and the good people of the Miami Valley will guarantee a very Merry Christmas for the hundreds of families we serve."

The Shopping Bag will also match all toy donations and toys will be given to FLOC on December 22 in time to be distributed for Christmas.
