A 30-year-old St. Marys woman is not facing charges after she said she shot and killed her husband earlier this month in self-defense.
Stephanie L. Sweigart was taken into custody following the Feb. 8 death of 36-year-old Wesley A. Sweigart, who was found dead inside his home in the 200 block of Pershing Drive in rural St. Marys.
An Auglaize County grand jury declined to indict Stephanie Sweigart, Sheriff Allen F. Solomon and Prosecutor Edwin A. Pierce announced Friday.
FIRST REPORT (Feb. 8)
According to a 911 call, posted on wcsm.com, Sweigart said she feared for her life and that she shot her husband. She said he physically assaulted her, and that he had a knife and said he was going to stab her.
The Auglaize County Sheriff’s Department found a man dead in his home when they responded to a reported shooting around 3:30 a.m. Friday.

Wesley A. Sweigart, 36, of St. Marys was found inside the house within the 200 block of Pershing Drive.
Stephanie L. Sweigart, 30, of St. Marys was taken into custody and was booked at the Auglaize County Correctional Center on a murder charge.
The Auglaize County Sheriff's Office will not release further information until the family has been notified, Sheriff Al Solomon said in a written statement.
