Annual adidas Warrior Soccer Classic Tournament heads to area

Hundreds of players and thousands of spectators are expected to fill fields in greater Dayton this weekend for the 31st annual adidas Warrior Soccer Classic Tournament.

The event, set for Memorial Day weekend (May 27-29), is billed as one of the largest soccer tourneys in the country, bringing in approximately 25,000 players, family members and spectators.

More than 500 teams will compete at five sites:

  • The Warrior Soccer Complex in Dayton
  • Vandalia Park Recreation Center fields
  • City of Oakwood Old River Sports complex
  • Hobson Freedom Park in Fairborn
  • Thomas Cloud Park in Huber Heights

The economic impact from visitors is expected to be an estimated $6.2 million, said Jacquelyn Y. Powell, president and CEO of the Dayton Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The tournament has grown from one featuring 150 teams in 1986 to more than 500.
