Third-graders at Dayton Public School’s World of Wonder Elementary School will read for donations to help Hurricane Harvey victims.
Through the school’s “Reading to Respond” effort, the third-graders will ask a family member and staff at the school at 4411 Oakridge Drive to pledge a specific amount of money per word read in one minute.
The amount raised will be counted at 10:30 a.m. Friday and donated to the Dayton chapter of the American Red Cross for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.
Dayton teachers said the reading practice gearing up for “The Big Read” will help students gain proficiency and learn the importance of community service by helping those in need.
