Learn how to save trapped drivers, douse fires in new citizens academy

Are you curious to see if you have what it takes to be a firefighter?

The West Carrollton Fire Department can give you that opportunity. This spring the department is hosting a new, five-week Citizens Fire Academy that will cover a variety of topics ranging from fire extinguisher training to auto extrication and medic transportation.

Other topics will include an overview of the department’s financial budget and organizational structure, hose and ladder deployment, medic equipment and fire tools, and fire prevention programs.

Starting on April 23, the free class will be limited to 12 members who live or work in the city. Interested participants, age 18 and up, should apply at by April 13.

Applications can also be obtained by calling the fire department at (937) 847-4645. The classes will be held on Mondays from 6 to 9 p.m. from April 23-May 21.
