Kettering police warn of ‘Shop with a Cop’ scam

KETTERING — Police here are warning of a person trying to solicit donations from local businesses on behalf of Kettering police.

On Friday, Kettering police were notified by a local business that someone suspicious was trying to get donations for a "Shop with a Cop" fundraiser.

The police department shared on its Facebook page it never solicits money or donations door to door to fund a community event.

“This Con Artist is trying to solicit money from the good people of our city and smearing the reputation of law enforcement everywhere,” Kettering police wrote on Facebook.

“Our events are meant to build a strong relationship with this wonderful community ... and we take pride in the professional manner in which we put said events on,” the department continued. “Merry Christmas and remember ... if it looks like a duck, and it quacks like a duck ... don't give it money.”
