Jeep snaps utility pole; Burkhardt Ave closed in Dayton

DAYTON — A mechanical issue may have led a Jeep driver to snap a utility pole tonight in Dayton.

The single-vehicle crash was reported shortly after 9 p.m. in the 500 block of Burkhardt Avenue. The pole, which had a transformer attached, was sheared near its base. Burkhardt Avenue will be closed to all traffic between South Garland and South Wright avenues for an extended period of time, police said.

Street lights are out near the crash, and Dayton Power and Light crews were called to the scene.

The driver suffered injuries believed to be minor, police said. The Jeep was to be towed.
