Home intruders detained in Muncie, Indiana following pursuit that started in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN — Middletown Division of Police were dispatched to a residence in the 2000 block of Sheffield Street for a home invasion, reported just after 12 a.m. on June 5.

Three men are reported to have entered the home, making demands while two of the men showed hand guns. A physical altercation occurred and one of the residents fired multiple rounds at the intruders.

The three intruders fled in a vehicle, travelling westbound on Central Avenue. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the intruders continued on.

Officers pursued the vehicle until they lost sight of it near the Ohio and Indiana border.

The Muncie Police Department located the vehicle and the intruders based on a description put out by Middletown Police.

James Payne II, Marquice Grandberry, and Jonathan Smith, all from Muncie, Indiana, have active warrants for aggravated robbery.

One of the individuals is in custody in Muncie and the other two intruders are at a nearby hosptial for medical treatment.
