Heavy power outages in Miamisburg, Centerville areas

A severe lightning storm has caused heavy power outages impacting the Miamisburg and Centerville areas.

There were more than 3,000 customers affected in that area, and power will not be fully restored until between 9 and 11 a.m., said Kelly Millhouse, director of operations for Dayton Power & Light.

“We have a large contingent of crews right now,” said Millhouse, who said they would be working overnight and into the morning.

More than 2,000 customers in Miami County lost power during the storm, which Millhouse said was a small branch line that would be restored quickly.

Power outages push nearly 7,000 across the region, according to DP&L and Duke Energy online outage maps.

Outages include 2,459 in Miami County; 1,887 in Montgomery County; 88 in Warren County; 52 in Butler County; two in Preble County and one in Greene County.

UPDATE @ 9:30 p.m.

Power has been restored to most of the nearly 2,000 without power reported around 9 p.m.

As of 9:30 p.m., 430 customers were without power, according to DP&L and Duke Energy online outage maps. The outages included 288 in Montgomery County; 88 in Warren Couny; 52 in Butler County; and one each in Miami and Preble counties.

More than 260 power outages are reported as strong storms move across the region.

As of 8:40 p.m., the majority of outages are in Butler County, which had 151 outages reported by Duke Energy, according to the utility company’s online outage map.

Dayton Power & Light reported 123 outages in Montgomery County, plus two in Warren County and one each in Miami and Preble counties on its outage map.

Duke reported an additional two outages for Warren County.
