MIAMI VALLEY — Organizers planned protests in several Dayton-area communities Thursday evening, including Troy, Tipp City, Eaton and Fairborn in response to the death of George Floyd while in Minneapolis police custody last week.
Protesters gathered in Troy around 2:30 p.m. at Richards Chapel United Methodist on McKaig Avenue and invited police to speak.

Faith leaders also organized a gathering in Tipp City at 6 p.m. Organizers told News Center 7 the event was a prayer service and the exact location has not been finalized.

Eaton’s police chief confirmed they were aware of a protest, planned by Black Lives Matter in Eaton, that began at 2 p.m. at Fort Saint Clair Park.

Eaton Police are at the protest and passing out water. They are accompanied by Preble County Sheriff’s Office and Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Law enforcement support from other villages will be nearby if additional assistance is needed.
Our News Center 7 team reports people have gathered at the Fairborn Community Library. Social media posts indicate a protest was scheduled in Fairborn at 3 p.m.
