Gas leak closes part of N. Keowee St.

A natural gas leak has closed a portion of North Keowee Street in Dayton.

Traffic was blocked on North Keowee between Chapel and Valley streets and motorists were being rerouted at Troy Street.

A crew working in the area struck a gas line shortly after 11 a.m., according to Dayton Sgt. Jared King.

The line was still spewing gas about three hours later.

King said the closure will likely spill over into the early evening.

The closure on North Keowee forced a semitrailer to make a detour onto Chapel Street, which led to the commercial vehicle getting stuck at the railroad crossing and stopping a CSX train.
