LAFF-TV launches in Dayton

The country’s first ever, over-the-air broadcast television network devoted entirely to comedy has selected Dayton as one of its initial launch markets, officials announced Wednesday.

Starting today, viewers can view Cox Media Group’s WHIO Channel 7.3.

“We’re excited to have this partnership with LAFF-TV in the Dayton area,” said Rob Rohr, Senior Vice President and General Manager of WHIO-TV. “The addition of this exciting comedy network only enhances the free over the air offering of WHIO in giving the Miami Valley more unique programming not found anywhere else.”

The LAFF program line-up will offer hundreds of episodes of the most popular sitcoms in contemporary television. Local LAFF viewers will enjoy all nine seasons of both The Drew Carey Show (233 episodes) and Night Court (193 episodes) from Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, as well as two offerings from The Disney/ABC Television Group, Ellen DeGeneres’ first sitcom Ellen (109 episodes) and all seven seasons of Empty Nest (170 episodes). The new network has also acquired Grace Under Fire (112 episodes) starring Brett Butler from Carsey-Werner.

The network gives viewers a mix of contemporary off-network sitcoms and popular theatrical motion pictures. Because the network is broadcast over-the-air, it may be necessary to rescan your television for new channels in order to pick up LAFF-TV.
