Greene Co. School District Faces Cuts

A Miami Valley school district is preparing to cut jobs in order to survive.

A school levy failed last November, and now the Greeneview School District in Jamestown has to cut $300,000 from its budget.

On Thursday night, the school board approved cutting seven jobs, two of which will be teachers. The superintendent started the cuts by eliminating non-personnel jobs.

School officials eliminated all field trips, doubling athletic pay to play fees to $100 and cut 5-10 percent in building and material costs, but more cuts were needed.

Another levy vote is scheduled for the district in May, which is a renewal of an existing levy. If that levy fails, the board may be forced to double the cuts, which would result in up to $700,000 in reductions .

Wright State University fired an assistant dean who is accused of inappropriately using more than $50,000 of university money.

Thomas R. Brookey served as an assistant dean for Fiscal Affairs in Wright State's Business School before the school fired him on March 4. One of the allegations is he used school money to buy alcohol for the men's club soccer team.

Brookey's attorney said he is waiting to see Wright State's audit report before he makes a comment.
