Dog parks closure delayed due to weather

UPDATE @ 11:12 a.m.:

Removal of ash trees at Pierce Parks has been delayed due to soggy weather conditions, according to a spokesperson.

Park officials are still hopeful the trees can be removed by a contractor sometime this week.

The project should take about a day-and-a-half to be completed and some sections of the park will be closed during the project.

INITAL REPORT:

The Greene County Parks & Trails announced it will be closing Pierce Parks and its Scout Dog Park intermittently beginning today for the removal of ash and other dying trees within the park.

Work crews and heavy equipment will be within the park for the next several weeks — depending on weather conditions — removing the trees that pose a safety risk if not removed.

All three dog parks will be closed during the project at the park.

Ash trees fatally impacted by the Emerald Ash Borer and other dying trees will be removed from the dog park and throughout the park.

“Safety is the number one priority for our park agency,” GCP&T Chief Ranger/Director of Operations Chuck Frazier said in a release. “We want our park visitors to be safe and to enjoy their time with friends, families and their pets when visiting the park or dog park.”
