Woman, 21, found dead in Miami County Jail cell

A woman was pronounced dead this morning after she was found unresponsive inside her cell at Miami County Jail.

Katnie S. Moore, 21, of Troy, was found lying on her bunk, not breathing, at about 11 a.m., according to Chief Deputy Dave Duchak of the Miami County Sheriff's Office.

The jail's medical staff performed CPR before Moore was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

Moore shared a cell with several other female inmates, who were each interviewed by investigators. Duchak said there was no evidence of foul play in her death.

"No evidence of trauma was found," he said. "We have no explanation right now as to her death." Duchak also said her death did not appear to be a suicide.

Moore's body was taken to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office where an autopsy is set to be performed Sunday.

Duchak said Moore had apparently vomited in her bed at some point before she died.

Moore had been in custody for less than 48 hours after violating a temporary protection order.

The incident is still under investigation.
