Trotwood teen gets 9 years in girlfriend’s fatal shooting

DAYTON — A 18-year-old from Trotwood who shot and killed his girlfriend in a bedroom at his home will spend the next nine years behind bars.

Tyrell Daunte Erby opted not to have a jury trial and was convicted of reckless homicide last month by a judge in the Feb. 3 death of 20-year old Taylor McKee of Union at his Horrell Road home.

Erby pleaded guilty on Aug. 23 to tampering with evidence and obstructing official business, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.

When police responded to Erby’s home, they found McKee in a bedroom, but Erby said she had been shot while walking outside. He told police he brought her inside but later admitted he shot her inside the bedroom, prosecutors said.
