ORIGINAL REPORT

A 32-year-old Bradford man suspected of stealing mail from several northwestern Miami County mailboxes was arrested after leading deputies on a high-speed pursuit.

Brain Mader is expected to be charged with two counts of felony drug abuse, theft, criminal trespassing and failure to comply, according to deputies.

Deputies responded to the area of Fenner and Wilson roads on a report of a theft in progress after someone saw a man stealing a small dirt bike and placing it in a pickup truck.

The caller followed the pickup trick and deputies eventually caught up to it and a short pursuit ensued for several miles on Fenner Road.

Deputies said the pursuit ended when the pickup truck overheated and the driver, Mader, was taken into custody.

Mader told deputies he ingested cocaine and heroin during the pursuit, investigators said.

Deputies suspect Mader was responsible in several mail thefts in the county.

Mader was transported to the hospital and upon his release will be booked into the Miami County Jail.
