Manuel Orrego-Savala -- a 37-year-old Guatemalan man who was living illegally in Indiana, according to police -- was charged with four felony counts in connection with the crash that killed Edwin Jackson, 26, and Jeffrey Monroe, 54, the Indianapolis Star reported.

Orrego-Savala pleaded not guilty Wednesday, according to The Associated Press.

His attorney, Jorge Torres, told a judge Wednesday morning that Orrego-Savala was distraught and confused by the charges against him, the AP reported. He said that Orrego-Savala has lived in Indiana for years and did construction work in the Indianapolis area.

He added that Orrego-Savala’s immigration status has nothing to do with Sunday’s crash, according to the AP.

Police said Orrego-Savala, who also goes by the name Alex Cabrera Gonsales, was in the United States illegally, despite being deported twice before – once in 2007 and again in 2009. On Tuesday, federal authorities charged Orrego-Savala with illegal re-entry of a previously deported alien, according to the Star.

Nicole Alberico, spokeswoman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, told the Star that authorities believe Orrego-Savala came to the U.S. illegally in about July 2004. He was convicted in 2005 of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol in Redwood City, California, she said.

He was deported by authorities in San Francisco in both 2007 and 2009, Alberico told the Star. It was not immediately clear why he was in Indiana.

Indiana State police arrested Orrego-Savala early Sunday after authorities said he drove a pickup truck onto the emergency shoulder on a stretch of Interstate 70 in Marion County, hitting a car that had pulled off the shoulder. Officials said Monroe and Jackson were outside of the car and killed in the crash.

Jackson, an undrafted linebacker out of Georgia Southern, played in all 16 games with eight starts, recording 66 tackles in 2016 for the Colts. This past season, he was on the injured-reserve list.

"We admired his outgoing personality, competitive spirit and hard-working mentality," the Colts said in a release. "He was well-respected among all with whom he crossed paths, and he will be greatly missed in our locker room and throughout our entire organization."

Orrego-Savala is expected to appear in court March 21 for a pre-trial hearing, according to the Star.

A Florida woman was arrested on Thursday after deputies said she drove intoxicated with a child sitting above an open case of beer tucked in the back seat.

Roque told the deputy that she “just got out of rehab today for a drinking problem,” according to the report. The deputy found a child in the backseat of the car with an open 12-pack of beer sitting underneath the child’s feet, the Palm Beach Post reported. Only nine of the 12 beers were in the case, the report states.

The deputy had Roque perform roadside sobriety tests, and then arrested her on charges of DUI and child neglect. Roque was booked into the Palm Beach County jail and released Thursday after posting a $4,000 bond, according to jail records.

A woman in Texas has been arrested after she was caught on camera tossing her small dog named Pumpkin out of a moving vehicle.

The Chihuahua-mixed breed survived the incident and was found Thursday roaming a family's rural property in Weatherford, WFAA reported. Surveillance cameras on the property provided clear identification of the vehicle. The dog's microchip further confirmed the owner's identity.

When questioned by Sgt. Ricky Montgomery, Janet Byas, 43, initially denied tossing the dog out of the vehicle. When the evidence of her involvement was presented to her, Montgomery said she admitted that she threw the dog out of the car because she was frustrated with it. She said Pumpkin would not stay on her property and she "couldn't handle it anymore," WFAA reported.

When WFAA asked for Montgomery's reaction to Byas' reasoning for throwing the dog out of the car, Montgomery said, "Grow up."

Byas was arrested and charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty.

Pumpkin is recovering from the ordeal and will eventually be available for adoption, Parker County Animal Control said.

A Texas man has been accused of possessing 8,000 hits of LSD. Cody Wayne Wahrmund, 31, was indicted Thursday for possession of a controlled substance, a first-degree felony punishable by up to 99 years in prison, according to an indictment issued Thursday.

A Cedar Park police officer stopped Wahrmund in his vehicle Oct. 1 for a defective rear tail light, according to an arrest affidavit reviewed by the Austin American-Statesman.

When the officer spoke to Wahrmund, the officer noticed a pipe with what appeared to be marijuana residue inside of it hanging from a walking stick in the back seat of Wahrmund’s vehicle, the affidavit said.

The affidavit said the officer searched the car and found methamphetamine inside a pill bottle. The affidavit does not include any information about where the LSD, otherwise known as acid, was found, the Statesman reported.

Wahrmund was released Oct. 1 from the Williamson County Jail after posting bail, which was set at $8,000.
